Southwest Tennessee Community College proposes the establishment of a new Associates

of Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) in Funeral Services Education. The program will be

delivered at the Whitehaven Center and will be the first of its kind offered at a public college

in Tennessee.

Tennessee has one of the highest levels of employment for funeral service jobs in the

country. There are more than 370 establishments in the State with annual sales of $316

million. Workforce data supports the need for the proposed program.

The program was developed with input from a 25-member advisory board composed of

funeral directors and mortuary services providers and has strong support from these industry

representatives. The program is designed to meet the requirements for accreditation through

the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE), Committee on Accreditation.
